About the event

Come join us at the Annual Carrabassett Backcountry Kids' Challenge benefitting the Western Maine Center For Children! Shredders ages 2-12 welcome! The kids had a BLAST last year!

There will be FOUR heats this year -

  1. The "Balance Bike" race - recommended for those bikers who are most comfortable on the balance bike - ages 2-5. This will be a fun race course in the ice rink!
  2. The "Little Pedal Bike" race - recommended for those bikers who are comfortable on pedal bikes but not ready for single track yet - ages 2-6. This will be the same fun race course as the Balance Bike race in the ice rink!
  3. Single Track Loop - recommended ages 6-8 - pedal bikes needed. For kids used to "trail in trail" biking with a possible smattering of single track. This is a half-mile, well-marked, fun loop will be near Moose Pond.
  4. Single Track Double Loop - recommended ages 9-12. Two loops of the course in #3!

You CAN pre-register online until July 1st! To do so, go online at! If you miss pre-registration, there will be in-person registration from 12:00pm-2:15pm. If you do not register your child by 2:15pm, they will unfortunately be unable to race. There is a recommended donation of $10 per child. We will have a bake sale as well for big and little bellies, all to raise money for our child care center.

The first heat starts at 2:30pm sharp - the late time is because we wanted the adult racers to see their kids race!

Parking can be a bit tough and will likely involve a walk so allow some time to get the bikes and kids in place for their big race!

A big THANK YOU to the Carrabassett Backcountry Cycle Challenge for letting us run this event for the kids at this amazing bike race! There are prizes as well as some ice cream and medals for all. We hope to see your kids there! It's going to be FUN!
